I would like to see the Kirby Park built again as it once was complete with fountain. What about distroying a parking lot and building a paradise. The Depot could still stand next to a park and it would surely make the appearance of the area more beautiful. The "Smokey" train gets lots of business since it was restored and sure made visiting my old home town fun!<br /> On another subject; Can there be a rebuilding of the Kirby House Restaurant? If Terry and Jerry could restore it, why can't there be a way to rebuild it? Come on Abilene, rebuild it and they will come!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9150680725786505979.post-41019001790217022072013-02-22T18:45:36.657-06:002013-02-22T18:45:36.657-06:00Thanks Cherry! There use to be water contests here in KS where Sand Springs and Longford water often competed over 1st and second place. To have the water taste right, it would have to be brought in from Longford. They may have gotten the Sand Springs source cleaned. I'm not sure on that. I read somewhere about fertilizer getting into the table decades ago.Cherryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09325351725912495901noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9150680725786505979.post-29955163102792798062013-02-22T17:06:53.365-06:002013-02-22T17:06:53.365-06:00Word.Word.Amanda Suzannehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17232290835169154830noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9150680725786505979.post-37969554419048427752013-02-22T17:00:51.089-06:002013-02-22T17:00:51.089-06:00You know me, I'm all for restoration and envir...You know me, I'm all for restoration and environmental friendliness. I think that would attract a lot more people than a crusty parking lot and an old train depot. And while we're at it, can we go ahead and replace all the street with environmentally friendly walking/biking/riding paths?! I'm not sure when the fountain was torn down, though my guess would be sometime in the late 1920s-1930s, soon after the Union Pacific Depot (now Civic Center) was built. That's "progress" I suppose!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04330051395732842724noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9150680725786505979.post-30883907792019665332013-02-22T15:12:20.378-06:002013-02-22T15:12:20.378-06:00I want to know what happened to the Kirby Park and...I want to know what happened to the Kirby Park and fountain and why it got glazed over by a parking lot?!Amanda Suzannehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17232290835169154830noreply@blogger.com
